This is our very first post, and we are somewhat in the dark. Still, the urge to write has overridden our best judgement, and we shall begin by introducing ourselves.
T is for Trini. I am a black and white English Springer spaniel. I wish I knew my age; I think I am around 10 years old. I lost track of time a few years ago when my first family decided they did not want me anymore. I wonder if that was because I am a bit different than other dogs. I was born without a back right leg. It doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers some who see me. Kids are the best and most accepting. It is the adults that sometimes look away. I had some major adventures on the road after I was abandoned, but we will get to that later. I was very, very lucky to be rescued.(Thanks to English Springer Spaniel Rescue.) They plucked me out of a shelter, days away from being put down, and found me the most amazing home ever ………I landed in Ohio and since then I have never had another hungry day. Still, I worry.
Tak is for Takatch. I am an English Springer Spaniel show dog. I am considered very handsome–it is true. Also, I have the burden of living with a semi-neurotic sister (Trini) and an exhaustingly cute but sometimes not to bright, puppy named Oliver. Someone has to keep order and set a good example, and this task falls exclusively in my lap. I will be blogging about the burdens of being the perfect “child.”
O is for Oliver. Hi, hi hi. I’m Ollie, and I am in a constant state of excitement. I am a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have no idea what that means, but I am just happy to be alive. I chase anything that moves, but I especially like butterflies, moths, flies… Our house is full of canine craziness–except for Tak, of course.
We will be blogging about our lives and adventures. Our owner would also like to blog about dog stories and creative writing. She is writing another book in our series, and we think she has writer’s bloc! Anyway, let us know who you are and what kind of dog you are. O and T like to make other friends. You will find Tak standoffish!

Hi Trini…my name is Brooks. I am a tall handsome Springer Spaniel. I was rescued by a wonderful lady less than 24 hours before I was to be “put down”..what ever that means… she posted me to the Springer Spaniel Rescue Society web site, which is where Mom found me. we have been together 10 years now and make a terrific pair. Mom just bought a wonderful book about Annie, and insisted we find you on the web. Thanks for a writing a great book.

Hi Brooks, Trini here. It sounds like you found a wonderful home! I have been in my forever home for 3 years. Sometimes I get worried that I might lose this home, so every time my mom gets ready to go out, I go a little crazy. I bark and carry on until I get into the car or get my “going out but will come back treat” (a peanut butter bone). I think I worry too much, but having been abandoned once left its mark on me. I do yoga and meditation to reduce my stress, but I still get anxious when that coat goes on! You might want to read my book, Forever Home. It is the story of my former life, my abandonment, and my search for a permanent home. I had some interesting adventures. Check out the web site for my little trip down the tunnel–for real, this summer! You can see my picture there too. I never knew Annie, but from what I heard from Tak, she was pretty special. We are so glad you are enjoying her book. Happy holidays. Trini and the gangt

Hi Tak,
Glad to see you are writing your side of things. I know all about being the “good” child - what a burden!! Things were kinda peaceful here after Mom adopted me from ESRA. I just had a bossy big sister who thinks because she’s a German Shepard/ Akita mix she can boss me around, but I let her. Then last May, my mom adopts this rescue springer all the way from South Dakota, without asking me I might add, and he has been making my life crazy ever since. He sounds alot like Ollie - go go go and bark, oh my gosh, that dude barks so loud he makes his OWN ears hurt. Somedays it’s all I can do to just stay out of his way. I mean a guy can just take so much WWE Smack Down before it gets annoying!
This writing gig isn’t too bad - I have a column in the ESRA NEWS trying to clue humans in on how we springers think. Talk about your burdens! You can check out my columns at http://www.springerrescue.org/newsletter_index.html .
Sorry I didn’t get to meet you when you came to visit my mom’s school. But since neither of us like to meet other dogs out in public, it could be just as well. You must have been great ’cause she and her students still talk about your visit.
Catch ya later, Tak!

Hi Maxwells, I’m great and so is the whole crew, Ollie, Trini and mom. She and I are going to the Home and Garden Show today and Sunday. That is always fun because I love to see the flowers and pretend it is spring. Trini may get to go on Sunday, but for today, I am the star. I do so like that role! You said we will see you in a couple of weeks–where? I want to be on the lookout. Take care. Tak

Dear Max and friends,
Today in our school, our third grade class read the story, “Max’s Rules” in preparation for your visit this Friday, March 20th! We thoroughly enjoyed the book and learned that we should always cooperate with others and celebrate our differences. Friday cannot get here soon enough - we are so excited! Keep up the great work you are doing as you bring comfort and joy to the lives of so many people.
Sincerely,
Mr. Smith and Room 402 at Arrowhead Primary, Copley, Ohio
